Netflix is set to deliver another thrilling South Korean movie to global audiences with Good News
South Korean movies and series have seen an enormous surge in global demand, especially after the record-breaking success of Squid Game. It is best known for its gripping thrillers, and Good News is another addition to it.

The political thriller is directed and written by acclaimed filmmaker Byun Sung-hyun, best known for Kill Boksoon. The upcoming film stars Sul Kyung-gu, Hong Kyung, and Ryoo Seung-bum. The project is being produced by Star Platinum and has already become one of the most anticipated Korean Netflix Originals of 2025.

When Will Good News Be Released on Netflix?

We have known for quite some time that Good News was targeting a late 2025 release. Recently, Netflix dropped a striking poster and a date announcement trailer, confirming that Good News will premiere worldwide on October 17, 2025.

Netflix has also revealed the official synopsis of Good News, revealing that it is based on a plane hijacking.

“Set in the politically charged 1970s, Good News follows a tense mission to prevent disaster when a plane is hijacked. To pull off the impossible, a mysterious fixer known only as Nobody (Sul Kyung-gu) joins forces with Seo Go-myung (Hong Kyung), a sharp young Air Force lieutenant. Acting under the orders of intelligence director Park Sang-hyeon (Ryoo Seung-bum), the team must attempt the unthinkable hijacking of a hijacked plane from the ground before time runs out.”

Who Stars in Good News?

The cast is packed with household names from both Korean cinema and television:

• Sul Kyung-gu plays the fixer known as “Nobody.” He has previously worked with director Byun Sung-hyun on The Merciless, Kingmaker, and Kill Boksoon. Fans may also recognize him from Netflix’s The Whirlwind and Yaksha: Ruthless Operations.
• Hong Kyung takes on the role of Air Force lieutenant Seo Go-myung. The rising actor is known for Weak Hero Class 1, Hotel del Luna, and Disney+’s Revenant.
• Ryoo Seung-bum portrays intelligence director Park Sang-hyeon. After a 13-year break from television, he returned in Moving (2023), earning critical acclaim for his performance. His film credits also include The Net, The Berlin File, and Perfect Number.
• Special appearances: Park Hae-soo (Squid Game), Jeon Do-yeon (Crash Course in Romance), and Hwang Jung-min (Narco-Saints).
