Netflix is set to deliver another thrilling South Korean movie to global audiences with Good News.
South Korean movies and series have seen an enormous surge in global demand over the past few years, especially after the record-breaking success of Squid Game. K-dramas and Korean thrillers are now among the most-watched content on the platform, and Good News is another highly anticipated addition to the lineup.
The political thriller is directed and written by acclaimed filmmaker Byun Sung-hyun, best known for Kill Boksoon, Kingmaker, and The Merciless. With his proven record of stylish, tense storytelling, expectations are already high.
Netflix’s official synopsis teases a gripping, high-stakes plot:
“Set in the politically charged 1970s, Good News follows a tense mission to prevent disaster when a plane is hijacked. To pull off the impossible, a mysterious fixer known only as Nobody (Sul Kyung-gu) joins forces with Seo Go-myung (Hong Kyung), a sharp young Air Force lieutenant. Acting under the orders of intelligence director Park Sang-hyeon (Ryoo Seung-bum), the team must attempt the unthinkable hijacking of a hijacked plane from the ground before time runs out.”
This mix of political intrigue, period detail, and nail-biting suspense is exactly what has made Korean thrillers so popular worldwide.
Netflix has confirmed that Good News will premiere worldwide on October 17, 2025. The streamer released a striking poster and a date-announcement teaser in early 2025, confirming the release date. Fans can expect the film to drop at midnight Pacific Time (PT), which is Netflix’s standard global release schedule.

The cast is stacked with heavyweights from Korean cinema and TV:
Special appearances reportedly include Park Hae-soo (Squid Game), Jeon Do-yeon (Crash Course in Romance), and Hwang Jung-min (Narco-Saints).
With filming wrapped, the movie is now in post-production and on track for its October 2025 premiere.
With its stellar cast, 1970s political backdrop, and the proven directing talent of Byun Sung-hyun, Good News has the potential to become another global hit for Netflix. South Korean political thrillers such as The Berlin File and Assassination have already shown the worldwide appetite for this kind of storytelling.
Netflix is also continuing to invest heavily in Korean content, making Good News part of a broader wave of Korean Originals slated for 2025. If you loved Squid Game, Kill Boksoon or Narco-Saints, this is a title you’ll want on your watch list.
Good News is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Korean Netflix Originals of 2025. Combining an A-list cast, a tense hijacking plot, and the political intrigue of the 1970s, it could become the next must-watch global phenomenon.
