10 Best Shows Like Stranger Things
August 28, 2025

It’s been a month since Stranger Things ended with a bang. But even though the main story has wrapped up, the world of Hawkins might not be finished just yet. In fact, the latest rumours suggest that Netflix could already be moving forward with a brand-new movie set in the same universe.
Since the series finale of Stranger Things, the fandom hasn’t exactly been quiet. From the so-called “Conformity Gate” debate to wild theories about a hidden or secret episode, fans have continued dissecting every detail of the ending. Some even believed the finale was a fake ending meant to set up something bigger.
That theory didn’t turn out to be true. However, Netflix did confirm that the franchise will continue with an animated spin-off titled Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, proving that the Stranger Things universe is far from over.
Now, fresh speculation has fans wondering if the next step could be something even bigger — a movie. Here’s everything we know so far.
A few days ago, popular celebrity and pop-culture gossip account DeuxMoi shared an anonymous tip from a user claiming, “Can’t share how I know (I’ll get fired), but Stranger Things is coming out with a movie in 2027.”
According to the rumour, the film would take place in the same universe but focus on a new cast, a different storyline, and events set in the future. The source even suggested that work on the movie’s music has already begun.

So far, no reliable or official sources have backed up these claims yet. Interestingly, creators Matt and Ross Duffer recently mentioned that a mystery Stranger Things project is in development. While they didn’t share details, it naturally led some fans to wonder whether they were hinting at a movie.

At this point, though, it’s important to stay realistic. Netflix hasn’t made any formal announcement about a film. And producing a high-quality project on the scale of Stranger Things isn’t quick. From writing and casting to filming and post-production, a feature film typically takes several years. A 2027 release would mean a very tight timeline, especially with Season 5 just ending.
There’s also the bigger strategy to consider. Netflix has already confirmed spin-offs in the works, including an animated series and other live-action expansions. It suggests the company may prefer to build the franchise through shows rather than jumping straight into a costly movie.
Some fans have even speculated that the “movie” rumours might actually be referring to something else entirely. Reports recently revealed that Netflix is filming Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the Broadway stage play, for a future streaming release. It’s possible that this project could be mistaken for a film adaptation.
While the movie remains a rumour, several confirmed projects are already in the pipeline.
First is the animated series Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, which revisits Hawkins during the mid-1980s and follows the kids on brand-new supernatural adventures. It’s officially in production and expected to be the next major release from the franchise.

There’s also a live-action spin-off series currently in development. The Duffers have confirmed it will explore a fresh story with new characters rather than directly continuing the original cast’s journey.
As expected, fan reactions to the movie talk have been mixed. Some viewers are thrilled at the idea. For many fans, Stranger Things is deeply nostalgic, so the thought of returning to Hawkins in any format feels exciting.
Others, though, are more cautious. Some fans feel the series ended on a strong emotional note and worry that stretching the story further could weaken its impact. In short, while some want more content, others believe the ending should stay untouched.
For now, everything about a 2027 Stranger Things movie remains just that, rumours. Still, with Netflix continuing to expand the franchise and the fanbase as passionate as ever, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Upside Down finds its way back onto our screens in some form. Whether that ends up being a movie or another spin-off, one thing is clear: the Stranger Things story isn’t ready to say goodbye just yet.
